Bogdan Alexandrescu, M.D.

Dr. Bogdan Alexandrescu grew up in Southern California and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He obtained his medical degree at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. He completed a transitional internship in medicine and surgery at LAC+Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He later traveled to New York to complete a three-year residency in ophthalmology at Columbia University at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute. He returned to California to complete a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of California, Irvine (UCI).
Dr. Alexandrescu’s current practice includes involvement in multiple clinical trials for the development of novel treatments in macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disease. He has strong interests in the medical and surgical management of conditions such as complex retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). His surgical interests focus on the use of minimally invasive vitrectomy techniques in the treatment of vitreoretinal interface disorders including epiretinal membrane (macular pucker), macular hole formation, and vitreomacular traction. He also devotes a significant part of his practice towards the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
He is a member of the American Society of Retinal Surgeons (ASRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), California Medical Association (CMA), Orange County Medical Association, and the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Alexandrescu’s interests include medical applications of information technology, music, physical fitness and following a wide variety of collegiate and professional sports. He also enjoys international travel, scuba diving, and underwater photography.
He is married and resides in southern Orange County.
